Biseri su u prošlosti bili vrlo cijenjeni.Prema hebrejskoj tradiciji biseri su Evine suze zbog izgnanstva iz raja, a poznati su i kao Afroditine suze radosti. Za Hinduse je biser izvor vitalnosti, a u kineskoj kulturi predstavlja besmrtnost. Biser je simbol čistoće, nevinosti i vjere.
Biser nastaje u oštrigama ili mušulama, kao reakcija na strane čestice
koje su ušle u školjku.Kad strano tijelo, što može biti obično zrno pijeska, slučajno dospije u
ljušturu, školjka izlučuje sedef i omotava strano tijelo kako bi ga
učinila bezopasnim za svoje mekano tkivo.Taj postupak omatanja stranog tijela traje nekoliko godina, a statistike su pokazale kako samo jedna školjka od njih 10 000 stvara biser. U današnje vrijeme se proizvode biseri tako da se u
školjku ubaci vanjski komadić školjke . Na taj se način izaziva prirodni
proces stvaranja bisera. Cijene se kao drago kamenje iako su minerali.
Možemo naći bisere različitih oblika i veličina. Najcjenjeniji su savršeno
okrugli biseri, iako ih ima različitih oblika: biseri u obliku kapi,
kruške ili zvona. Mogu biti bijele, crne, krem i ružičaste boje. Crni biseri, koji su dragocjeniji od bijelih, nastaju na područjima gdje je zemlja vulkanskog porijekla.
Ohridski biseri se prave od tijela školjke bisernice, koja raste u Tihom
oceanu. Stručnjaci za ohridske bisere ih režu i bruse dijamantnim
oštricama. Tako nastaju male biserne kuglice, koje se nakon toga
premazuju emulzijom dobivenom od ribe plaštine, koja živi u Ohridskom
jezeru, i koja biserima daje konačan sjaj.
Throughout the history pearls were very much appreciated. Hebrew tradition says that pearls are tears of Eve that she dropped while going out of heaven, and they are also known as joyous tears of Aphrodite. Hindu consider pearls as a source of vitality and in China it represents immortality. It is a simbol of purity, inocence and faith.
A pearl is made inside the shell as a reaction to foreign particles. When some particle such as a small rock comes into the shell, pearl oyster excretes pearl emulsion and wraps up the foreign particle so it would be harmless for shell's soft tissue. That procedure of wrapping inside shell lasts for a couple of years, and statistics have shown that just one pearl oyster out of 10000 makes pearls. Today there is a production of pearls by putting a small piece of shell inside her to initiate the natural process of making pearls. Pearls are priced as precious stones although they are in fact minerals.
There are so many types of pearls. The most precious are perfectly round pearls but there are also teardrop, pear shaped and bell-shaped pearls. They can be white, black, cream and pink. Black pearls are more precious that the white ones and they are produced in areas with ground that has volcanic origin.
Ohrid pearls are made of a special pearl oyster and they are cut and shaped with diamond blades. That's how are made small pearls which are then smeared for glossy look with an emulsion made from a fish that lives in the Ohrid lake.

Kao što znate, pravi biseri su vrlo skupocjeni pa se mi obični ljudi moramo zadovoljiti i s onim lažnima koji svejedno lijepo upotpunjuju svaku modnu kombinaciju:)
As you may know real pearls are expensive so ordinary people like us have to be satisfied with fake ones that also look nice with almost every fashion combination:)
